Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer–Block 47

RHONDA_47Block of the day: #47

Section: Triangles

Featured Quilter:  Rhonda

Rhonda says:  The finished size of these Half Square Triangles is 2”.

Happy Birthday Ryan! My son’s birthday today.

This is a good one for triangle paper or the half square template by June Tailor, Inc.  If you do not have either of those things available, I’d suggest going with oversized squares,Mary  sew them together using either the method in the book or another method (there are several) and then trim to the 2-1/2” unfinished size.

Fabrics used: Kona; Avocado. Tortoise Shell from the “Salt Water” collection by Tula Pink.

Additional blocks made by:  Jen & Mary

Mary says:  Because the half square triangles in this block end up smaller than in previous blocks, I wanted to ensure accuracy so I cut my original squares a bit oversized so I could square them up to the size they needed to be before they were put together.  Cut (5) 3" squares of each fabric.  Put right sides together (one of each color), mark a diagonal line, sew a scant 1/4" from both sides of the line and cut on the drawn line.  Press open, then square up each half square triangle to 2 1/2".  You will make 10 of them but only use 9 for this block.  But they will be perfect!  This really turned out to be a super-sweet "girly" block.

We encourage you to take pictures of your blocks and upload them to our Tula Pink 100 Blocks of Summer Flickr Group. If technology isn’t your thing, bring your blocks into the shop and we’ll snap a picture of them and upload them on your behalf.
