Lisa – Lario by MODA

Lisa says:  Personally, I think you’re going to want to do the paper pieced version of this block.  The book seems to go about the center sections in the most difficult way possible, adding 4 Y-seams where they really aren’t necessary.

G-4 Leslie

Leslie – Midwinter Reds by MODA

Leslie says:  Except for my personal challenge to fussy cut the plaid squares, this block was easy to paper piece.  I pressed the seams open to make the point junctures flatter.

G-3 Julie Q Julie Q – Scrumptious by MODA

Julie says:  Take your time and sew slowly.  Be sure to choose a strong color for this block.  Color placement can make a big difference.  You really want the center to pop!  This is an easy block to paper piece so make sure you choose that method instead of the book for this block.  If you are piecing it per the book, it gets a little tricky with the inset seams.  If this is your first attempt at inset seams, stop by the shop and any of the quiltie ladies can walk you through the importance of sewing point-to-point to achieve a pretty block.

G-3 Leslie Leslie – Midwinter Reds by MODA

Leslie says:  Use paper piecing!  If you’re piecing this block traditionally use the paper piecing for the 4 corners.  Cut the center square using the template in the book.  Measure and mark 1/4” from the corners of the center square and “fix” your stitch at those points when joining the corner pieces.0

G-3 SuzanneS

Julie: Elm Creek Quilts; The Giving Quilt This block was put together by PW Customer Suzanne S.

Suzanne S. says: Don’t drink wine when piecing. I’m not a good piecer. I wish I would have used English Paper Piecing technique for this block. I can be much more accurate with that technique.

F-10 Jen

Jen – “Sparkler” Fat Stack, a beautiful blend of Purple, Blue and Green Kona Solids

Jen says:  I enjoyed putting this block together.  I really like how this particular color combo came out in this block.  So many other times I’ve used these limey greens and found my block looked really washed out when I was done.

F-10 Lisa

Lisa – Lario by MODA

Lisa says:  Using a glue stick to hold the background pieced to the foundation would help in keeping them straight as you sew them together.

F-8 Mary Mary – William Morris Fabrics by MODA with Batik Backgrounds

Mary says:  Strip piecing 2 lights and 1 dark strip together, then sub-cutting make this block go together fairly quickly.  The center 2-1/2” square is an opportunity for a cute fussy-cut center.

F-8 Stephanie Stephanie – Downton Abbey

Stephanie says:  I don’t care for the fabric selection once it was put together, but I think this could be an amazing block with 4 color selections by changing the color of the pieces that curround the center square.
