Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer – Block 90

MARY_90Block of the day: #90

Section: Haiku

Featured Quilter:  Mary

Mary says:  This block threw me a bit at first.  The tricky part (or what I found tricky!) is that the 2 top rectangles are pieced together in the middle; this 6-1/2” strip is then the last piece to be sewn onto the block.

Additional blocks made by:  Diane, Jen & Lisa

 DIANE_90 JEN_90 LISA_90

Jen says:  I assembled this block incorrectly and had to do some partial seams to get the job done.  Of course, had I just ripped what I first sewed I wouldn’t have had to make it more difficult!!

We encourage you to take pictures of your blocks and upload them to our Tula Pink 100 Blocks of Summer Flickr Group. If technology isn’t your thing, bring your blocks into the shop and we’ll snap a picture of them and upload them on your behalf.

Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer – Block 89

susie_89 Block of the day: #89

Section: Haiku

Featured Quilter:  Susie

Susie says: This block is all about the fabric. It is Kaffe Fasset's Belle Epoch.  I paired it with some pretty Kaffe Shot Cottons.

Additional blocks made by:  Mary, Jen & Lisa

MARY_89 JEN_89 LISA_89

Jen says:  This was the LAST Tula Pink Block I assembled (since I did them out of order).  I finished it at 8:18pm on May 30th.  I named my block Cup Cake.  I wanted to add a small piece of Cup Cake fabric into the quilt as this will be a quilt for our bed.  When we adopted our dog Maddie from the Elm Brook Humane Society a few years back the name she came with was Cup Cake.  We’ve kept it around as a nick name so I wanted to add her into the quilt.

Watch the placement of your strips.  The top strip is 1-1/2” and the bottom is 1”.  The physically block is pictured right, the drawing does not appear correct.

LISA_88 Block of the day: #88

Section: Haiku

Featured Quilter:  Lisa

Lisa says:  I named this block Tula Odd . Almost a half log cabin… but not. Again, a great place to showcase a fun fabric image and the sewing isn’t so bad. I guess not because apparently, I made an extra one!

Additional blocks made by:  Mary & Jen

MARY_88 JEN_88

Mary says:  This fussy-cut flower is from an old Kaffe fabric I found in my closet.  It goes perfect in my collection!

Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer – Block 86

JEN_86Block of the day: #86

Section: Haiku

Featured Quilter:  Jen

Jen says:  This is the first block in our final section, Haiku.  I thought this section was a lot of fun and a nice way to finish out this sampler.   I had been looking for a place to put this sweet little dragon fly.  It’s too bad I had to cut his wings off!!

Additional blocks made by:  Mary & Lisa

MARY_86  LISA_86

Mary says:  I can’t believe we’re on the home stretch!  Time to start thinking about how I’m going to set these blocks in a quilt.  I’m thinking a crisp, white sashing to give it a “modern” look but probably will not use all 100 blocks in one quilt….don’t really know yet.  I have 14 days to decide!!

Lisa says:  To start off I guess I will say I’m not so much a fan of these. Well I like the blocks enough, but the cutting kind of drove me nuts. Most of the other block in this quilt were pretty straight forward with the cutting. You could get into  a sort of rhythm. These, you actually have to read the instructions and pay attention!

Additional blocks made by:  Diane, Jen & Lisa

 DIANE_85 JEN_85 LISA_85

Jen says:  I strip pieced this block.  The 1st & 3rd rows are actually the same, just flipped around.

Lisa says:  Well I didn’t have anything as exciting as the disco balls that Tula used!

Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer – Block 83

LISA_83-1 Block of the day: #83

Section: Squares

Featured Quilter:  Lisa

Lisa says:  I named my block Tula 4Patch.   Four patches are my favorite! Great place to use those medium size images. I used the large Jo Morton stars and more of my 32 year old bridesmaid dress fabric!

Additional blocks made by:  Mary & Jen

MARY_83 JEN_83

Jen says:  These easy blocks towards the end sure make me giggle.  It’s a great way to pull in some fabrics you may not have gotten to use yet.

Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer – Block 82

RHONDA_82 Block of the day: #82

Section: Squares

Featured Quilter:  Rhonda

Rhonda says:  A nine patch, an old favorite of mine.  Press the seams toward the dark color and this block goes together beautifully.

Fabrics used: Kona Dusty Peach, Parisville by Tula Pink (fussy cut).

Additional blocks made by:  Mary, Jen & Lisa

MARY_82 JEN_82 LISA_82

Jen says:  I can’t believe it took us until block 82 to hit a normal everyday nine patch!

Mary says:  The classic 9-Patch.  I used one of my favorite fabrics in my collection, the multi-colored paisley!

Lisa says:  Can you believe the nine patch is number 82?!!!

Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer – Block 81

JEN_81 Block of the day: #81

Section: Squares

Featured Quilter:  Jen

Jen says:  I strip pieced the middle portion of this block which I feel gave me a much more accurate block than had I pieced each item individually.  The pieces are so tiny; they were a little easier to control as strips.

Additional blocks made by:  Mary & Lisa

MARY_81 Lisa_81

Mary says:  I strip pieced the dot with the print fabric and sub=cut to help me make this block more accurate.

Lisa says:  This block is so cute in every group of blocks I’ve seen! How can you not love the nine little windows! I made my outer border slightly larger for this block and trimmed it down with the June Tailor Get Squared ruler. I thought it made it easier to stabilize all those seams.

MARY_80 Block of the day: #80

Mary says:  This block ended up with too much solid for me.  Overall it will still fit in with the others.

Additional blocks made by:  Lisa , Jen & Diane

DIANE_80 JEN_80 Lisa_80

Jen says:   Although I like my block, I wish I would have had something with a little more impact in the upper right corner.

Susie_79 Block of the day: #79

Section: Squares

Featured Quilter:  Susie

Susie says: How do you like the fabric by Brandon Mably called Nets?  I love it!!  The center piece is by Philip Jacobs called Fox Glove.  I also decided to get creative and make a single block into a small wall hanging.  Isn’t it adorable?

Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer – Block 78

LISA_78 Block of the day: #78

Section: Squares

Featured Quilter: Lisa

Lisa says:  Tula Labyrinth I loved making this block too! I reversed my lights and darks to put the one large star in the small box. You should be really good at these half inch seams by now!

Additional blocks made by:  Jen & Mary

MARY_78 JEN_78

Jen says:  This is one of my absolute favorite blocks in the entire quilt.  It was a little more time consuming than the others but well worth it!
