Patched Works 12 Weeks of Christmas – Week 1

Today we start our 12 Weeks of Christmas Program at Patched Works.  We are going to work our way through Kate Spain’s “In From The Cold” pattern and work on a different cup each week along with other fun projects.  Each of the Quiltie Ladies has picked a different style of fabric to add some personality to the project.

Stop into the shop this week and receive a free “In From the Cold” Pattern with purchase of a Fat Stack.  A Fat Stack is a pack of 12 coordinated fat quarters.

You’ll want to stop into Patched Works every Wednesday for the full demo experience because there are prizes!!!  Stop in for 6 of the 12 weeks and earn one entry.  Stop in for 9 of the 12 weeks and earn two entries.  TWELVE $25 Patched Works Gift cards are up for grabs!!  It’s perfect for guilt free spending on yourself right before the holidays!

Rhonda:  Kaffe Inspired
Rhonda says:  I love coffee, the first thing I do every morning is get the coffee pot cooking.  It’s also my creative time, therefore, the gorgeous blues, yellows, pinks and coffee colored fabrics by Kaffe, Brandon Mabley and Phillip Jacobs were my pick for “In from the Cold”. A cup of coffee and an artsy table topper made out of four of the cups for my kitchen table should really get the creative wheels spinning.  Happy sewing,  Rhonda

Jen:  Christmas Countdown
Jen says:  I’ve always loved coffee but have become a more serious drinker in recent years.  I’m making my coffee cups to mimic my Winterberry Christmas Dishes.  I drink my coffee from these mugs year round because they simply maimageke me happy.  I’m left handed so you will see all of my mug handles on the left of my cups.  I haven’t decided if I want to add steam to my mugs, I feel my background fabric takes care of it.

Lisa:  A Little Sugar
Lisa says:  I chose the Benartex Sweetie Pie line because it is so sweet and so different from the fabrics I was working with for the City Sampler blocks.

I made a left handed handle because I think I will be putting my cups on a shelf and in my cupboard, the handles never go the same way!

photo 4 (11)Diane: Kim Schaefer Inspired
Diane says:  Because I quilt for Kim Schaefer, I had the desire to use her fabric for something.

Julie: Coffee Inspired
Julie says: Why did I pick coffee fabric?  I love coffee. I love everything about coffee. The aroma, the beautiful deep color. The smooth flavor or a breakfast blend or the intense flavor of an espresso roast. A mug of coffee held in my hands comforting me like a big teddy bear hug. Holding the cup up under my nose so that I can breathe in the steamy aroma on a crisp autumn morning. Tasting that first sip every morning welcoming me to the start of a new day. A creamy mocha as a mid morning treat. An iced latte kissed with raw sugar as an afternoon pick me up. A bold espresso to accompany the perfect slice of moist chocolate cake.

Wait... What was the question?

Jen says:  I had a lot of fun making these 100 blocks.  I’m dying to put them together but need to be patient while I wait for my bolt of Black Batik to arrive!!  My Milwaukee Block I flipped because my focus fabric had a flaw in it.  Putting the seam on the right assured that I covered that flaw instead of forgetting about it later.

We encourage you to take pictures of your blocks and upload them to our Tula Pink 100 Blocks of Summer Flickr Group. If technology isn’t your thing, bring your blocks into the shop and we’ll snap a picture of them and upload them on your behalf.

Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer – Block 93

LISA_93Block of the day: #93
Section: Haiku
Featured Quilter:  Lisa
Lisa says:  I named my block Tula Tricky. This is a fun block to select fabric for and to sew. The tricky part is staying organized. Those pieces that go around the center square look pretty close to the same size. It helped to lay the pieces out the way they will be in the square.

Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer

Celebrate Labor Day and head into fall.  It’s a good thing we only have a few blocks left!!

Just a few reminders:

When cutting your fabric for your Quilt Top Setting, please cut your borders larger than what is specified.  This pattern has you cutting everything at once but it is imperative to measure and cut for YOUR finished sizes before attaching your borders and long sashing strips.

If you’re making blocks through our 100 Blocks of Summer Program in person at Patched Works you need to have 20 blocks finished and signed off on by September 15th to receive the Patched Works collector pin.

If you’ve finished making all 100 blocks through our 100 Blocks of Summer Program in person at Patched Works you need to have them signed off on by September 15th to receive the Patched Works T-shirt & Quilt Label at the Awards Ceremony on October 2nd at 6:30PM.

Mickey has a great tip for block organization:

Use 12" squares of vinyl backed tablecloth for block design boards.  Cut blocks and position them on the boards. Stack the boards in your travel box until you are ready to sew.  Block pieces are laid out and ready to go.  It’s a step above cutting and putting in baggies.

Nancy G drew up this fantastic layout with Graph Paper and Colored Pencils.  Don’t be afraid to draw up your own design instead of just going with what the book suggests.
