Mary says:   This block has a completely different look using the stripe instead of a solid.  I love it!

Jen says:    Here I am with my Blue and Orange love affair again.  And to think…I HATE the color orange!!

Lisa says:  I named my block Tula T's.  I cut a 4 1/2 by about 5" rectangle and two 1 1/2"strips of each fabric and strip pieced all the stripes.

Jen says:   I named this block Summer Punch.  Who doesn’t love pink and lime together?

Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer – Block 58

LISA_58   Block of the day: #58

Section: Stripes

Featured Quilter:  Lisa

Lisa says:  I named my block Tula Rail.  What can I say- Four stripes 2" by 6 1/2"- easy!

Additional blocks made by:  Shirley, Mary, Jen & Rhonda

JEN_58 RHONDA_58

Mary says:  Here is a block I made entirely out of my scrap pile.  It doesn't use graduated colors like Tula's block, but the fabrics all play nicely together.  And isn't that the point?

Jen says:  I decided I needed a quick way to add more yellow into my quilt as it was severely lacking.  I had quite the challenge finding four yellows in my stash that were just different enough.

We encourage you to take pictures of your blocks and upload them to our Tula Pink 100 Blocks of Summer Flickr Group. If technology isn’t your thing, bring your blocks into the shop and we’ll snap a picture of them and upload them on your behalf.

Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer – Block 57

RHONDA_57Block of the day: #57

Section: Stripes

Featured Quilter:  Rhonda

Rhonda says:  Created the stripes for this block using a strip set.  Cut one strip of each of the solid colors 1-1/2” x approx. 12”, sew them together, press and then cut 2 units of 4-1/2” wide.  The fabric shown in the book was not available at Patched Works, so it was a chance to be creative and use another fabric by Tula Pink.
Fabrics used: Kona Delft, Kona Azure and Tula Pink

Additional blocks made by:  Mary,  Jen,  Lisa & Shirley

Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer – Block 56

JEN_56 Block of the day: #56

Section: Stripes

Featured Quilter:  Jen

Jen says:  I love the Citrus-ey colors of this block.  Such a simple block is perfect to kick off our Stripes section!  Since we’re starting a new section AND we’re a little over half way, CHANGE YOUR NEEDLE!!

Additional blocks made by:  Mary & Lisa

MARY_56

Mary says:  For me, this section is a little respite from the more technical flying geese and triangles of the previous section.  I chose to use a lot of my scraps that I have been collecting from these blocks.  I hope you're keeping your scraps, too, because they really do come in handy!  Just be sure your "scrap" is as accurate as you think.  It might be in the scrap pile for a reason!

Lisa says:  I named my block Tula Star Stripes- I used a piece that I had laying around that had been strip pieced for an earlier block for the left side stripes.

We encourage you to take pictures of your blocks and upload them to our Tula Pink 100 Blocks of Summer Flickr Group. If technology isn’t your thing, bring your blocks into the shop and we’ll snap a picture of them and upload them on your behalf.

Additional blocks made by:  Jen, Mary & Lisa

JEN_55 MARY_55 2013-07-18 10.48.29

Lisa says:  This block is an easy one to get turned around. Pay attention to the triangle you start each row with to make sure you get the together correctly.
After 55 Gather all of your leftover scrap strips. They'll come in handy for the "Stripes" blocks.

Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer–Block 54

SUSIE_54Block of the day: #54

Section: Triangles

Featured Quilter:  Susie

Susie says:  This is my favorite block so far.  I chose Kaffe’s Flame Stripe from the Spring 2013 Collection and chose two colors from the modern solids.  When using prints be careful how you place them.  Note that the bargello seems to float across the block.

Additional blocks made by:  Jen, Mary, Lisa & Shirley

JEN_54 MARY_54 2013-07-18 10.48.46 2013-07-19 16.51.02

Mary says:  I just love how this block turned out!  Be sure your "geese" fabric has good contrast with both of the other fabrics in your block.

Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer–Block 52

RHONDA_52Block of the day: #52

Section: Triangles

Featured Quilter:  Rhonda

Rhonda says:  These half square triangles finish at 2”.  We’re over half way through the book, so half square triangles are fitting.  May want to use an alternative method for making the half square triangles.

Fabrics used: Kona; Cardinal. Salt Water by Tula Pink.

Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer–Block 51

JEN_51Block of the day: #51

Section: Triangles

Featured Quilter:  Jen

Jen says:  The flying geese can get a little bulky so remove the excess fabric.  Also this is one of the few blocks that I had to iron the seams to one side instead of open.  Had I forced them open I would have had a lumpy bumpy block.

Patched Works 100 Blocks of Summer–Block 50

Mary says:  This block definitely intimidated me at first but I used my method of starting with oversized squares so I could square up my half square triangles to be the small 1 1/2" they needed to end up at.  I cut my original squares 2", cutting 5 squares of each color.  Follow the directions for block 47.  I really took my time sewing this one and it paid off.  I think it ended up as one of my most accurate blocks!

Jen says:  I used 1” Finished Half Square Triangle Paper to make my block.  This is one of my favorite blocks!!

Lisa says:  I named my block Tula Tiny Triangles.  Triangle paper!! I used my 32 year old brides maids dress fabric for the tiny triangles, and broke my rule of lights on the outside. The thin outside border strips could be straighter if you cut the pieces wider than required and then use the 6 1/2" "Get Squared" ruler by June Tailor to trim to the correct block size.
