Guiding Star is pieced per the directions on page 44 and template patterns on page 114 OR Paper Pieced using the Supplemental Packet offered at Patched Works.
Jen – “Sparkler” Fat Stack, a beautiful blend of Purple, Blue and Green Kona Solids
Jen says: In paper piecing this block, I could have eliminated a few seams but it would have looked different though-out the center so I decided to leave it alone. Be careful when lining up those points across the center. I have one that is a little off but I had to make the decision to rip it or leave it alone. Sometimes when you rip on something that is paper pieced, it gets worse the second time instead of better. I decided that once my quilt is together that slight bit being off won’t be too noticeable.
Stephanie – Downton Abbey
Stephanie says: It looks pretty intimidating but was super easy with paper piecing!

Debi A says: The most difficult thing about this block is lining up the angles and odd shapes for sewing. To make this easier, modify your templates before cutting your fabric pieces. 1. Trace and cut out the templates including seam lines. 2. Line up templates right sides together, matching seam lines. 3. Cut off the extending pieces from templates B, C, D and Dr. 4. Cut your fabric pieces with the modified templates. Now you can line up the pieces accurately without fussing or trial and error.
