I did fusible appliqué on outside teardrops. My tip is to use monofilament top thread with a very small zig zag stitch. If you have an extra finger on your bobbin, I thread bobbin thread through it and I drop my top tension to zero. This pulls the top thread down to the back and makes a nice appliqué finish.
